CASE STUDY: Calculator
Overview
The progressive web application (PWA) built with JavaScript. User can add an app shortcut to the home screen.
Purpose&Context
Calculator is a personal project, showcasing my expertise in writing User Stories, app development as well as my ability to design and implement a functional PWA from concept to deployment.
Objective
The objective of the Calculator app is to provide users with an efficient and seamless calculator with amazing design for managing simple calculations, integrating advanced mathematical functions such as using parentheses, decimal numbers.
Duration:
I started the project in January 2023 but launched it to Github in May 2025 tuning the development and design. Therefore, the official work with deployment on netlify.com ended in June,2025.

Development process
1. The very beginning meets experience
This project began with my first steps into software development, following a tutorial by the Developer Akademie in January 2023 (YouTube link). After a brief pause, I resumed work in May 2025 by drafting user stories based on the app’s core features. These stories provided a structured foundation for understanding the application's functionality and aligning development with user needs.
2. Design and Accessibility
My design concept was inspired by the aesthetic of Desperate Housewives—a blend of classy, vintage, and luxurious suburban housewife style. The look combines elegance, femininity, soft pastel tones, floral accents, and a touch of 1950s glamour. While the final design does present some accessibility limitations, we chose to maintain the airy, transparent styling with this specific aesthetic in mind. Given the wide variety of calculator apps already available to suit different needs and accessibility standards, this version focuses on delivering a visually unique and mood-driven experience.
3. Monitoring
To monitor the app’s popularity, I set up a project in Google Analytics. This enables me to track the metrics and the user activities with the app.
4. Progressive Functionality
To enhance user experience, I implemented progressive web app functionality. This included enabling the app to function as an app and allowing users to add it to their home screens. These features ensured a seamless experience across different environments and devices.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the development of this calculator app combined aesthetic creativity with practical implementation. The process followed best practices in functionality, design, monitoring, and progressive enhancement. Every step was executed with attention to detail to ensure a smooth, reliable, and visually engaging user experience. While the design embraces a unique and stylized theme, the core of the app remains focused on delivering high-quality performance and usability. This project reflects a thoughtful balance between form and function, offering users something both elegant and efficient.
